about

Remember the day Ray opened his occult bookstore? I do. Remember the bizarro people who showed up to shop there? Remember the whacko right-wingers who thought they could "pray away" the evil blemish on their neighborhood? Were they ultimately successful in getting God to take the store away, or was it just the poor economy that forced ol' Ray out of business? You listen, you decide!

Featuring the Yahama QY70, sequenced and recorded in Ableton Live with vocals by Dale Culp.

No connection with a certain Ray's Occult Books in a certain 80s movie featuring the Ghostbusters implied, inferred or intended. This song is about some other guy named Ray who also opened an occult bookstore. It's just a coincidence.

lyrics

CHORUS
I remember the day
old man Ray
opened up his occult bookstore
I remember the day
like it was yesterday
my my, my my, hey hey

VERSE 1
There were crystal gripping hippies
there were right-wing, fundie Christies
They started to pray, "Lord, take this store away!"
'twas a sight to be seen
'til the scene got mean.
There were fights in the alleys
there were riots in the streets.

CHORUS

VERSE 2
He had voodoo glow skulls sitting in the window
He had books on learning how to raise the dead
For a dollar, you could meet ol' Robert Ripley,
and show him things that would make him turn his head!

FINAL CHORUS
I remember the day
old man Ray
closed up his occult bookstore
I remember the day
like it was yesterday
I guess the Lord took his store away
I guess the Lord just took his store away.
